Why I Love Belts

Why I Love Belts

Your belt is your best friend. Because, unlike your real best friend, it doesn’t lie, avoid paying bills, or covet your boyfriend. Belts are reliable. Belts are trustworthy. Belts won’t tell you it’s okay to eat your own body weight in tiramisu. Belts aren’t like that. Belts dig their heels in and insist on your using the last notch. You know, the one that you pretend you never need. You know where you are with a belt.

But that’s not all. Belts save you money. How? Because with a belt you can change the silhouette of an outfit. Imagine. Two outfits for the price of one. I use them like this all the time. And not only for dresses. A good tip is to buy a belt a couple of sizes too big so that you can use it for coats as well. Nothing improves the look of a coat better than a nice belt.

Narrow or broad? Both. I love Alaia’s corset belts but I also love Hermes Kelly belts. The corset belt gives you a wasp-like waist while the Kelly buckle belts add a touch of elegance, winter or summer, to every dress, coat, and skirt. As my Instagram followers will know, I particularly like the Alaia belts worn with a white shirt and a long skirt.

Are these belts expensive? Yes. Are they worth it? Yes. You will use them time and again. Your only regret will be that you don’t have them in every colour.
