Christmas Decorations
Keep it simple and elegant
Trees:
If you want to go artificial, buy the most expensive you can afford – it will look better for longer - and make sure that you have a place where it can be easily stored.
Decorations:
I prefer natural wooden tree ornaments. They are expensive, but they last a lifetime and you can collect them over a number of years. Similarly, I prefer fewer but more beautiful baubles. Also, I wrap smaller (empty) boxes in attractive paper and ribbon and place them on the branches. Make sure you have a piece of green or red cloth to wrap around the base of the tree.
If you have the time and can afford it, I recommend a trip to a Christmas market in Sweden or Bavaria. They seem to have the best tree ornaments.
Lights:
Preferably white but if you insist on colour, then one colour only. Multi-coloured lights belong in New Jersey.
